Residents in a New England town are fuming that they have not been consulted on plans to convert a former state prison into a tax-payer-funded migrant shelter for hundreds of people.

The state is refurbishing Norfolk, Massachusetts' Bay State Correctional Center, a former minimum-security dorm-like facility, to accommodate migrants and homeless individuals who are currently holed up at Boston's Logan International Airport and are on the waitlist for an emergency shelter program. The facility is located on the grounds of Massachusetts Correctional Institution (MCI), a medium-security prison.

Norfolk has a population of about 11,500 and voted heavily in favor of President Joe Biden in 2020.

The governor's office tells Fox News Digital it expects the shelter to be operational next month as a "temporary safety-net site for families experiencing homelessness." Families who will stay at the site will be subject to the 30-day engagement requirements and a monthly recertification process to demonstrate they are taking action toward getting work permits, jobs and housing.

HUD Targets Public Housing Discrimination Against Formerly Incarcerated People

For decades, tenants with criminal records have been restricted from accessing public housing. This may soon change.

“People should have a fair chance, a fair shot, at getting a place to live. No one should be judged only by what it says on a piece of paper.”

To date, the preponderance of reactions to the proposal have been positive. “A criminal record has no bearing on tenancy outcomes, and there is no evidence that shows excluding people with conviction histories makes our communities safer,” Emma Maleko, a staff member at the Vera Institute wrote. “Without safe, affordable housing it is incredibly difficult for most individuals released from incarceration to make it. I didn’t realize the tremendous harm our cities, counties, states and nation do to individuals, families and communities until I ended up in jail for 136 days,” a man identified only as Doug Dunbar, wrote.

“For years, fearmongering and racism have kept people leaving prison out of public and HUD-supported housing,” the Vera Institute’s Bae told Truthout. “People should have a fair chance, a fair shot, at getting a place to live. No one should be judged only by what it says on a piece of paper. Trying to predict future behavior by looking at the past is ridiculous. It’s also flawed.”

'There's no excuse for it': Alito's upside down flag sparks calls for recusals and impeachment

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is facing growing calls to recuse himself from Jan. 6-related cases after a bombshell report of an upside-down American flag flying on his lawn house shortly after the attack on the Capitol, which he claimed his wife did as part of a spat with an anti-Trump neighbor. Jennifer Rubin and Elie Mystal join Ali Velshi to discuss what the next steps should be and why Alito’s actions are not surprising. “They’ve already told you what they’re about. They’ve already told you that they’re MAGA-aligned pro-Trump insurrectionists and the proof of all that is not actually in the flag story or the email story, it’s in their written opinions,” Mystal says. “It’s in what they’ve done for Trump since he launched his insurrection, which is do everything in their Supreme power possible to make sure Trump evades prosecution and accountability for his crimes.”

Tennessee Authorizes Death Penalty for Child Sexual Assault in Direct Challenge to Supreme Court Precedent

making the punishment unconstitutionally “unusual” for the crime. The Court further noted the disproportionate nature of the punishment of death on a person who had not caused death, raising concerns about the “incongruity” between child sexual abuse and the “harshness” of the death penalty. “When the law punishes by death, it risks its own sudden descent into brutality, transgressing the constitutional commitment to decency and restraint,” the justices wrote.

stop the fascism stop the barbarism this is clearly a violation of human rights and unconstitutional and a extreme version of sex exceptionalism this will do nothing to stop these horrific crimes from happening but put more hate and violence into society and expand the prison industrial complex and make society dumber since we will react more emotionally more then logically which is what will really harm kids or anyone for that matter

Body of German-Israeli Woman Shani Louk Recovered in Gaza – Palestinian Barbarians Kidnapped Her from Music Festival, Raped Her, Broke Her Legs, Murdered Her, Then Paraded Her Body Through the Streets of Gaza as Civilians Shani was murdered by Hamas barbarians when they targeted a youth concert in southern Israel.

Shani Louk, the 22-year-old German-Israeli tattoo artist, was last seen at a rave party in the northern Negev, where Hamas militants stormed in and killed at least 260 attendees.
Initial reports hinted at Shani Louk being sexually assaulted and killed, with her lifeless body flaunted around Gaza, as an appalling trophy of terrorism. Disturbing images and videos showed the militants spitting on her body, chanting, “Allahu Akbar!” meaning, God is good, as they paraded through the Gaza, bearing Louk’s corpse.
“Only now we got the note that Shani Louk has been confirmed as murdered and dead,” said President Herzog.

“They found her skull, which means these barbaric, sadistic animals, moles, simply chopped off her head when they were attacking and torturing and killing Israelis. It’s a huge tragedy,” he continued.
This was Shani Louk.

Kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7th, her body was only recovered today.

Shani was tortured, raped, and beaten before being murdered and dragged round the streets half-naked as a “trophy” and an example of what would happen to other Israelis.

We recognize “social work” to include all workers who identify with the field — from social service workers to organizers, clinicians to policy makers, and those with and without social work degrees or licenses.

Abolitionist social work partners in the work of ending state and institutional violence, while supporting life- affirming relationships, practices and organizing. We are committed to working towards a social work rooted in solidarity over charity, one that is decolonized, de-professionalized, anti-capitalist, and is committed to accountability, reparations, and continual transformation. This requires that social work become unrecognizable from its current form.

NAASW is a proud to contributor to this "critical anthology exploring the debates, conundrums, and promising practices around abolition and social work. Featuring a foreword by Mariame Kaba, Abolition and Social Work offers an orientation to abolitionist theory for social workers and explores the tensions and paradoxes in realizing abolitionist practice in social work—a necessary intervention in contemporary discourse regarding carceral social work, and a compass for recentering this work through the lens of abolition, transformative justice, and collective care."

This statement is incorrect and dangerous for many reasons, as human rights advocates have pointed out. As a group, Hamas is far from “ancient” — Hamas was established 37 years ago by revolutionaries seeking to liberate Palestine from decades of violent Israeli occupation, ethnic cleansing and apartheid, with an opposition to Zionism, not the Jewish people, as the group established in their 2017 charter.

Saying that there is an “ancient desire” to kill Jewish people within the Palestinian resistance, then, implies that Biden believes that Palestinians have an innate desire to oppose Jewish people — an implication that many advocates for Palestinian rights have pointed out is deeply racist, and an accusation that has long been levied against Palestinians in order to justify their slaughter.

“Hamas was founded in 1987. So when the president says ‘ancient desires’ to eliminate the Jews, he’s making a point about Arabs/Muslims as inherently and viscerally genocidal,” said AJ+’s Sana Saeed on social media.

The president spent roughly half of his speech, supposedly aimed at addressing antisemitism, denouncing Hamas and student protesters against genocide, without a word about the antisemitism growing within the Republican Party and embraced by his opponent in the presidential election. This is only the latest example of Biden and Zionists within his administration cynically using antisemitism as a bludgeon to silence critics of Israel’s genocide — a practice that many Jewish anti-Zionists have said only makes it harder to fight actual antisemitism.

Rossana Rodriguez, a self-described socialist serving on Chicago’s city council, believes the idea of punishing criminals is racist.

What does she think should be done with rapists and murderers? Summer camp?

When you look at the breakdown of law and order in cities across the United States, remember that the chaos is being driven by people like this. They are the problem. A socialist member of Chicago’s city council believes that the idea of using police to ensure safe streets and punishing criminals is “racist” while calling America a “garbage society.”

Rossana Rodriguez is an alderwoman on Chicago’s city council who supports defunding the police and caucuses with the Democratic Socialists. The alderwoman, who explicitly calls for “critical race theory” to be taught to children, is also involved in the council’s Education and Child Development committee.

The alderwoman repeatedly blasts American society in her frequent social media tirades.
According to the councilmember, America is “a garbage society” and “a White supremacist society and system” that “favors White people.” Rodriguez believes that “White people are ahead in the game” in comparison to minority groups…

“When we say #DefundThePolice we mean developing alternatives to racist punishment and brutality. This work has been around for a while and it’s a great tool to rethink our ideas of what public safety should look like,” Rodrigues said in response to a post about “police abolition” in 2020.

Can Chicago just start sending all the criminals to her house?

An Interior Department staffer abruptly resigned on Wednesday in protest over the Biden Regime’s stance on the Israel-Gaza war.

Lily Greenberg Call, a Jewish special assistant to the chief of staff in the Department of Interior, resigned in protest and blasted Joe Biden in a phone call with the AP.

In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Call blasted Joe Biden’s comments on Israel and Jews.

“In an interview with The Associated Press, Call pointed to comments by Biden, including at a White House Hanukkah event where he said “Were there no Israel, there wouldn’t be a Jew in the world who was safe” and at an event at Washington’s Holocaust Memorial last week in which he said the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attacks that triggered the war were driven by an “ancient desire to wipe out the Jewish people.”” The AP reported.

The 'New Fentanyl' Killing Drug Users in Europe

A new synthetic opiate has killed dozens of European heroin users. Nitazenes, which are up to 300 times more potent than heroin, are increasingly showing up in the continent’s drug supply, sparking fears that they could fuel a surge of overdoses, on par with North America’s fentanyl crisis.

Today’s campus protests aren’t nearly as big or violent as those last century — at least, not yet

So far, there have been no bombings, like the one in August 1970 at the University of Wisconsin that killed a postdoctoral researcher and did $6 million worth of damage. There has been no repeat of the infamous Kent State massacre of May 1970, when National Guard troops opened fire on protesters at the Ohio campus, killing four.

Another difference that has struck observers is the quick crackdown by campus authorities. In 1968, students occupied Columbia’s Hamilton Hall for nearly a week before authorities moved in. The bust -when it finally came - saw more than 700 arrested.

“It’s funny because Columbia is very proud of ... Columbia students’ history of activism,” said Ilana Gut, a senior at the university’s sister school Barnard College. “So their attitudes toward the modern-day activists, at least in the eyes of protestors, is very ironic -- that they’re so proud of their past protestors, but so violently repressive of their modern-day ones.”

see protests where way worse back then so idk why the media is making a deal about these mild ones that are vastly peaceful

Guaranteed Income: The First Step Towards Guaranteeing Human Rights in America

Author Natalie Foster relays policies initiated in American towns to save an America in economic crisis with guaranteed income, healthcare and education.

“The guarantee of housing has moved into the mainstream,” Foster said. “During the pandemic, government would do things like buy hotels and move the unhoused in, giving them a room of their own with a key, getting us closer to the idea of a guarantee of housing and certainly a guarantee of healthcare where we would mobilize the National Guard,” she added.

Scheer challenges the notion of relying on the Democratic Party to implement such profound changes since they are often the ones who perpetrate the conditions that see people suffer now. Foster maintains, however, that there should be hope for change since these policies are becoming more popular.

Another banner proclaimed that the Institute of Politics was now named the "Casbah Bassel Al-Araj," referring to a Palestinian writer and activist who was killed during a shootout with an Israeli counterterrorism raid in the West Bank.

A protester later raised a flag on the roof of the porch.

Mercedes workers in Alabama reject union, dealing setback to UAW

"It was clearly damaging to the union and other organizing attempts near-term, but it is the beginning, not the end,” said Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at the University California, Berkeley. He blamed worker unfamiliarity with the union and pushback from Mercedes for the loss.

The workers at the plant in Vance, Alabama, and a nearby battery facility voted 2,642 to 2,045 against joining the UAW, meaning 56% voted "no," according to the U.S. National Labor Relations Board, which oversaw the vote. The result still needs to be certified.

"While this loss stings, we’ll keep our heads up,” UAW President Shawn Fain said at a nearby union hall following the loss.

"I’m not scared at all,” he said when asked about losing momentum. “This is a setback.”

An IAF fighter jet targeted a building in Jenin in the northern West Bank late Friday night as part of a counter-terrorism operation, the IDF reported.

A Ynet report stated that the building was harboring terrorists, with Maariv then reporting that the strike hit a five-man squad that was planning to carry out a major terrorist attack in the immediate time frame.

The strike killed Islaam Hamaisa, one of the commanders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's Jenin Brigade, Ynet reported citing Palestinian media.

Hamaisa was responsible along with another terrorist for a deadly attack that happened in the Hermesh settlement in the West Bank in May of last year, in which Meir Tamari was murdered, Ynet reported.
Jenin has been used for many years as a hub from which many terrorists come out in order to harm Israeli civilians. In one of the targeted countermeasures carried out in the city about two months ago, four terrorists were killed by a UAV.

@40843

1: Vaping is less harmful than smoking, but it’s still not safe.
E-cigarettes heat nicotine (extracted from tobacco), flavorings and other chemicals to create an aerosol that you inhale. Regular tobacco cigarettes contain 7,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic. While we don’t know exactly what chemicals are in e-cigarettes, Blaha says “There’s almost no doubt that vaping exposes you to fewer toxic chemicals than smoking traditional cigarettes.”

However, there has been an outbreak of lung injuries and deaths associated with vaping. In February 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 2,807 cases of e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) and 68 deaths attributed to that condition.

“These cases appear to predominantly affect people who modify their vaping devices or use black market modified e-liquids. This is especially true for vaping products containing THC,” explains Blaha.

The CDC has identified vitamin E acetate as a chemical of concern among people with EVALI. Vitamin E acetate is a thickening agent often used in THC vaping products, and it was found in all lung fluid samples of EVALI patients examined by the CDC.

The misogyny of the anti-protest

Our reaction to the students who are protesting against what they see as genocide in real time speaks volumes about who we are.

“Fat”, “ugly”, and “bitch” are just a few of the invectives hurled at female antiwar protesters by “counter-protesters”, a name the press has given to pro-Israel demonstrators, angry mobs, and frat boys gathered to jeer and perform monkey dances alike. Counter-protesters routinely shout that they hope female protesters voicing support for Palestinians in Gaza are raped. Pundits condescend that the antiwar protesters are coddled, silly, ahistorical, and misguided.

Female professors, like the former chair of Dartmouth’s Jewish studies department, Annelise Orleck, and Emory’s philosophy chair Noelle McAfee and economics professor Caroline Fohlin, have attempted to intervene in male officers’ “duty” to violently clear pro-Palestine student encampments only to be met with humiliation and brutality. “Get on the ground,” an enraged male police officer screamed breathlessly at Frohlin. When she did not take her place immediately at his feet, officers forced her there, smashing her head on the concrete. The taunts of the pumped-up bro attacking the UCLA encampment summed it up, “You stand no chance old lady.”

This is more than good old-fashioned sexism rearing in the heat of the moment. The female antiwar protesters have broken the unwritten rules of being a woman in the United States. They are neither on display for men nor acting like men. Hypermasculine antifa tactics are at a minimum, if not absent. The peaceful – even “culturally feminist” – encampments feature meditation, lectures, song and dance, and yoga.

These performances are not for the male gaze. Female students are swaddled in masks and keffiyehs and using social media for political messages, not painted in makeup and using Kardashian-filtered visages to amass likes. Why would any woman choose the former over the latter? Megyn Kelly has the answer. They are “homely”, she declares, adding that “attractive” women would not protest.

Recent Reports Reflect How the FDA Props Up the Cigarette Trade

It’s a situation that means FDA enforcement efforts against unregulated vapes, and related legislation, are directly targeting major competitors to cigarettes identified in the Goldman report.

The report also reflects the surge in popularity of modern oral nicotine products such as ZYN and on!. Retailers and wholesalers report robust growth in this category—an 18 percent increase year-on-year. Like vapes, these pouches offer a much less harmful alternative to cigarettes, and their popularity illustrates that people who smoke are willing to switch if given appealing options.

All of this should demonstrate to public health that working with market forces here—responding to what people who use nicotine actually want, rather than imposing regulations that suppress their preferences—is a path to significant progress.

The Barclays “State of Global Tobacco” report, published four days earlier on April 18, further strengthens this argument. It shows how, in the current regulatory climate, cigarettes remain extraordinarily profitable. Manufacturers’ operating margins stand at between 38 and 56 percent—far in excess of other regulated staple goods.

The threat that disruptive technologies pose to these profits is being artificially deflated, when manufacturers of safer nicotine products face onerous and often insurmountable regulatory hurdles. Under the current system, it is easier for new cigarettes to gain FDA authorization than new vapes. Cigarettes remain a highly lucrative venture for tobacco companies, thanks in part to the agency.

US President Joe Biden says it's OK that food's super expensive because the average working people of this country have money to burn on commodified necessities such as macronutrients.

In reality, US credit card debt has increased to record levels in recent months, and delinquencies -- an early indicator that people are going broke -- are starting to rise.

So, no, Joe, that pandemic money is long gone, and people now are holding on by their fingernails -- and all while layoffs and unemployment are still relatively low. It's a bad situation that's probably about to get much worse.

Biden continued by talking out of both sides of his mouth, saying that "we've got to deal with" the "corporate greed," etc., but we all know where his sympathies lie and which class he serves at the end of the day.

A general strike as envisioned by the UAW will take cooperation from other unions willing to align their contract expiration dates with April 30, 2028. Although this type of solidarity among unions is a tall order, “there is an actual game plan laid out that could lead to a general strike on May 1, 2028,” said Barry Eidlin, an associate professor of sociology at McGill University in Montreal.

it takes a ton of time and planning to organize a general strike

Pro-Israel billionaires urged New York crackdown on Gaza protests: Report

WhatsApp leaks reveal group of business leaders discussed ways to pressure officials to clear pro-Palestine protesters.

A handful of powerful businessmen pushed New York City Mayor Eric Adams to use police to crack down on pro-Palestinian student protesters at Columbia University, donating to the politician and offering to pay for private investigators to help break up the demonstrations, the Washington Post has reported, based on leaked WhatsApp conversations.

The story, published on Thursday, says that several billionaires seeking to influence public perception of Israel’s war in Gaza discussed means of pushing the mayor and the university’s president to end the protests, which were eventually cleared last month amid criticism of the police’s heavy-handed response.

“One member of the WhatsApp chat group told The Post he donated $2,100, the maximum legal limit, to Adams that month,” the story reads.

“Some members also offered to pay for private investigators to assist New York police in handling the protests, the chat log shows — an offer a member of the group reported in the chat that Adams accepted.” The story states that city authorities denied that private investigators were used to help manage the protests.

Rebuild the labor movement through militant class struggle
Without organization, workers are mere raw material for exploitation. Only class-struggle unionism, which starts from the premise that our interests and the bosses’ are diametrically opposed, can reverse decades of decline and put labor back on the offensive.

We oppose all anti-union laws and fight for every worker’s right to strike and join a union. We reject multi-tier contracts, concessions, and give-backs, and call on labor leaders to launch an all-out drive to unionize the unorganized.

We fight for trade union democracy on the basis of one member, one vote. To combat bureaucracy and corruption, all union officials should be elected by the membership with the right of immediate recall, and be paid no more than the average wage of the workers they represent.

Communists built the American labor movement and formed the backbone of industrial unionism—it’s time we returned to our fighting roots! The best way to prepare for an all-out general strike is to successfully organize millions of workers in a wave of industrial strikes, demonstrating the colossal power of the working class in action.

However, trade union organization and struggle are not enough. Workers need a class-independent political expression to coordinate their common struggle against the capitalist class as a whole.

Down with the Democrats and Republicans! Build a communist party!
American workers have no party of our own. The left is nonexistent, and the labor leaders embrace class collaboration and compromise. In this vacuum, the Democratic and Republican Parties have succeeded in dividing and duping millions into voting for them as the “lesser evil.”

Those who argue that these and other institutions of capitalist and imperialist rule can be made to serve two masters are deceiving the workers and leading them into the dead-end of class collaboration and reformism.

Communists stand for uncompromising class independence and reject the false dichotomy of liberalism versus Trumpism, two sides of the same capitalist coin. To combat the distorted polarization of the culture war, we stand for class polarization and the class war.

Raw milk is more dangerous than ever. So why are sales surging?
It has everything to do with Americans’ distrust in government.

Here’s the wild part: According to a recent report from the Associated Press, in the time since these announcements were made, weekly raw milk sales have gone up, not down — an increase of 65 percent compared to the same period last year.

“It defies logic,” says Nicole Martin, a food scientist and the associate director of the Milk Quality Improvement Program at Cornell University. Does the uptick represent increased consumption among people who already drink raw milk or new interest from people now hearing about it for the first time? It’s not entirely clear, but according to a raw milk farm owner quoted in the AP story, “Anything that the FDA tells our customers to do, they do the opposite.”

Pasteurization has been making the world’s milk supply dramatically safer since the late 1800s, and for just as long, a portion of milk drinkers have been rejecting that technology.

Columbia University faculty pass vote of no confidence in president
Professors rebuked the embattled leader over her handling of pro-Palestinian protests.

Arts and Sciences faculty at Columbia University on Thursday passed a vote of no confidence in the institution’s president, Minouche Shafik — a sign of growing dissent over her controversial handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Out of the 709 professors who voted for the resolution — introduced by the Columbia chapter of the nonprofit American Association of University Professors — 65 percent expressed no confidence in Shafik, while 29 percent voted against it and 6 percent abstained, according to the results shared with POLITICO.

“President Shafik’s violation of the fundamental requirements of academic freedom and shared governance, and her unprecedented assault on students’ rights, warrants unequivocal and emphatic condemnation,” the resolution states.

Though symbolic, the move is designed to send a message to the university’s board of trustees, which is continuing to back her, that trust in the embattled leader has eroded.

“A vote of no confidence is the first step towards rebuilding our community and re-establishing the University’s core values of free speech, the right to peaceful assembly, and shared governance,” the resolution reads.

An estimated 255,000 uninsured New Yorkers between the age 19-65 are excluded from health insurance (such as Medicaid and the Essential Plan) because of their immigration status.

A3020/AS2237A would solve this problem by expanding the Essential Plan for all low-income New Yorkers who meet income requirements (up to 250% of the federal poverty level). This would be done using federal funds which can only be utilized for innovative healthcare expansion through a “pass through” account. There would be no cost to the state of NY and would result in state savings. The state must amend its 1332 waiver in order to expand healthcare coverage to these vulnerable new yorkers.
